Buzz Aldrin on the Moon (1969)

Neil Armstrong (1930-2012)

On July 20, 1969, half a billion people watched on live television as Neil Armstrong became the first person to set foot on the moon. "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind," he said, as he stepped onto the moon’s surface. Armstrong was joined on the moon by fellow crewmember Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin.

This photograph is of Aldrin, showing a reflection in his visor of Armstrong and the Lunar Module, the small capsule they guided to their landing.
